Whaaaaaaaattt???

You Are Likely an Only Child

At your darkest moments, you feel frustrated.
At work and school, you do best when you're organizing.
When you love someone, you tend to worry about them.

In friendship, you are emotional and sympathetic.
Your ideal careers are: radio announcer, finance, teaching, ministry, and management.
You will leave your mark on the world with organizational leadership, maybe as the author of self-help books.

Soooo, I'm not quite sure how to take this. Maybe I'm adopted, and my real parents never had more children? Because I have two brothers. I guess maybe being the oldest is like being an only child, for a little bit? I dunno, but some of it is true. I am emotional and sympathetic. I always blamed that on good ol' Catholic Guilt. And, I was a math teacher. That's like finance, teaching, AND management rolled in one.

One question: How does somebody with no brothers or sisters become good at controlling a room full of children or lead a team of colleagues??

Never Trust a Thin Cook

I'm a fatty. By default that means one (or both) of two things:

I enjoy eating food.

I enjoy cooking/baking food.

For me, it means both.

The older I get, the more I find myself wanting to explore different cultures of food. I have come to appreciate spicy foods, and foods made with curry. I have even learned to enjoy dessert dishes that don't involve chocolate. Right now, the cuisines I would like to learn more about are Southern and Italian. I mean real Italian. Not Olive Garden style.

Naturally, I love the Food Network. Actually, I am watching it right now. Iron Chef America. I love it. It's the first time I've watched it actually. I am very impressed, and I feel like I'm watching a type of Iron Chef that I can learn from. It's funny because it sounds EXACTLY like the original Iron Chef. It actually sounds like the comments of the guest tasters are still being dubbed over! Heehee, you HAVE to watch one episode to see what I mean. Alton Brown commentates on the show. I love Alton Brown. I also love Sandra Lee and her Semi-Homemade Cooking. And who doesn't love Rachel Ray?!?!?

I wish I could be a Chef. Actually, my dream is to retire with my husband and be a cook for a Bed and Breakfast. It's something I would so much love to do, but I know that there is a lot of devotion involved in becoming a chef. I would lose so much family time, and I have already experienced that once. So, unfortunately, I will have to at least wait until the kidlets are a little older. Then if I feel like pursuing the training and spending the time, I'll chase my dream. In the meantime, call on me if you ever feel like having some good eats!!

My New Favorite Dishes to Make:

Beans and Rice
Buffalo Chicken Wontons (Just like Ruby Tuesdays!)
Stromboli
Tea Cookies
Macaroons

Things I Want to Learn to Make From Scratch:

Lobster Bisque
Gnocchi
My Dad's Meat Pie
Pierogies

Today's DUH! Award Goes To...

This morning I turned on my computer to check my email. And while I do that, I always open an extra window to read the news headlines. Today's top headline caught my eye. Something to the effect of "The Worst Breakfast You Can Eat" And there's a picture of a McMuffin next to the headline. Now I'm thinking "Oooohhh! I should read this and send it to Art (the hubby) to bust him." My husband is SEVERELY ADDICTED to McDonald's. Only problem is, he's Jack Sprat. And I'm the wife who could eat no lean.
I click on the headline and begin reading. Here's what happened. The researchers at SUNY Buffalo decided to do a study on the breakfasts American eat. So, they tested the effects of a McDonald's breakfast. And here's the kicker: The breakfast they studied was Two McMuffins and Two Hashbrowns. Even my husband, the McDonald's unofficial spokesman, doesn't eat that much. Anyone could tell you that's bad. And who can eat all that anyways?? (Ok, if you're from my family, don't answer that!)

The result of the test: Two McMuffins and Two Hashbrowns causes inflammation of the arteries.

Congratulations, SUNY. Here's your DUH! Award.
